All you need to know about FUEGO!
Located in Guatemala, Fuego is one of Central America's most active volcanoes. Being 1 of the 38 volcanoes in Guatemala, Fuego over looks its former capital, Antigua, and is just South of another volcano, Acatenango. Acatenango is known as Fuego's twin volcano. Fuego is in between Sacatepequez and Chimaltenang departments, and its exact coordinate points measure 14.473 degrees North(Latitude) and 90.880 degrees West(Longitude). Reaching an elevation height of 3,763 meters (12,346 feet), Fuego has erupted 60 times within 500 years. Its most recent eruption was January 4, 2002. One of Fuego's most famous eruptions was in 1974. Its ash clouds reached 11km above the summit, and its pyroclastic flows had a velocity of 75km per hour, stretching 7km from the crater. Fuego is formed in a composite shape, making it a stratovolcano. This continental volcano is a result of the subduction of the Cocos plate beneath the Caribbean plate, that then produced the Central American Arc. This basalt-erupting volcano has a peak covered with ash and lava rocks from its previous eruptions. During one of its eruptions, some of the hazards includes pyroclastic flows, ejection of block and bombs, lava flows, mudflows (lahars), lava dome extrusion, and spine extrusion. Some environmental danger from Fuego's eruptions include damaged land and property, including housing, large buildings, and highways. Some of its major eruptions have unfortunately left many fatalities in Guatemala.
